Whimsical audio-visual duo Mermaid Chunky cement their star-crossed connection with LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy by signing to his very own DFA Records. Marking this new chapter, the London/Stroud ensemble have shared their uplifting composition 'Céilí'. Sprawling, unencumbered, across 8 minutes (although we could easily imagine it going on for much longer) 'Céilí' is a free-flowing tapestry of overlapping recorders, scratchy cabasa ruffles, and playful drums, peppered with digital claps and atmospheric synths. Vocally exploring ethereal chants and firmer post-punky delivery styles, Mermaid Chunky utilise their abilities to the full, experimenting with pursed lips, hums and squeaks as the track reaches its reluctant yet inevitable conclusion. The band explain: "Jigging in a Céilí (pronounced*Kaylee*) is one of the quickest ways to fall in love and to deeply know a mass of strangers in a short amount of time. This frantic stupid, sad happy song is both deeply heartfelt beyond words and can also be slid around to at its sweaty face value. Developed through years of live chaotic improvisation at parties and gatherings, we hope to feelingly hoick up our skirts with our recorders, flutes, drums machines, synthesizers and operatic vocals to shine a light into their radically trusting universe."
